Johann Strauss II (1825–1899), often known as the "Waltz King" was a renowned Austrian composer and conductor, famous for his light, elegant, and melodic dance music, particularly the waltz. His compositions helped define the Viennese style of music during the 19th century. Some of his most famous works include:

"The Blue Danube" (1867) – Perhaps his most iconic piece, it has become synonymous with Vienna and is one of the most well-known waltzes in the world.

"Die Fledermaus" (1874) – A popular operetta that is still frequently performed today.

"Tales from the Vienna Woods" (1868) – Another of his famous waltzes.

Performance Venues

State Opera

The Vienna State Opera is a truly spectacular building, dating from 1869. The façade is built in Renaissance arched style and the loggia on the Ring Strasse side underlines the character of the building. The two famous representations of riders over the main façade erected in 1876. They were created by Ernst Julius Hähnel and represent two flying horses, illustrating Harmony and the muse of poetry. Hähnel is also responsible for the five bronze statues Heroism, the Songstress, Fantasy, Thalia and Love which stand on pedestals inside the arched loggia arcade.

Volksoper

The Volksoper Vienna is Europe´s leading Operetta House and Vienna's largest theatre for opera, musical and dance offering high musical entertainment Along with 18th, 19th and 20th century operas it offers more than 100 performances of operettas per year, as well as classical musical, contemporary dance and concert performances. The Schonbrunn Palace

Vienna’s first private Palace Orchestra was founded in spring 1997 by IMaGE Performing Arts Promotion. Presenting the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss at high artistic standard has been the orchestra’s principle from the start. Due to IMaGE placing such importance on musical quality the eighteen musicians consist of only highly talented virtuosi: they are all trained in the world’s best known conservatoriums. The ensemble members are young, dedicated and highly trained musicians who have already performed in a wide variety of Austrian orchestras and concert halls. The concert programme is changed daily thus guaranteeing variety and constant quality. With its enthusiasm, talent and ability the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra offers you an unforgettable evening full of classic atmosphere.
